    First Woodie Rehab

I was given a couple of wooden planes in poor shape and decided to try my hand at a little rehab. Started with this small smoother. Sole was beyond hope, so planed it down, laminated a piece of hard maple to the bottom, shaped it, and chiseled out the "v" on the inside. Planed the sole to reveal the mouth, filed it all smooth. Sharpened up the iron and fettled the chip breaker quite a bit. Still needs finishing, but pretty happy with the results. Now on to the jointer.

Good for you! Bringing something like this back to life is great fun, isn't it?

    Looks like fun!

There are a million of them around me but I haven't taken the plunge with them yet.

It was fun and a bit challenging just going from a few videos. Chris, not sure how gorgeous it is, but sanded a bit and the first coat of BLO looks promising. I'll follow that up with a few coats of Amber shellac and call it good. Anxious to get started on the joiner.
