bleach small areas of gray spalt in soft maple

    I'd appreciate some thoughts.
I purchased some 8/4 curly soft maple for the aprons on a small sofa back table. The thickness is because I needed to bevel the apron. When beveled there appeared a few small rings of gray spalt. The wood is not at all punky. Is there a simple way to bleach these small rings without taking on the whole board with 2 part bleach? I plan to use wipe on poly for a finish.
    Thanks,
    Jake

Try regular chlorine bleach then try Oxalic acid (wood bleach). The Oxalic would be my first try but I already have some on hand. Chlorine bleach may work so I suggested it first.

Finishing is an 'Art & a Science'. Actually, it is a process. You must understand the properties and tendencies of the finish you are using. You must know the proper steps and techniques, then you must execute them properly.
