My Festool vacuum has risen to new heights

I am patching, sanding and painting the fascia of our house before installing new eavestroughs. In order to use my Festool Rotex 150 sander effectively on the fascia, the vacuum had to be positioned within reach.

I first tried placing the vacuum on the roof but I was unhappy with it there, and I had some mishaps (such as dropping the sander and almost pulling the vacuum off the roof ).

I finally settled on the arrangement that you see in the attached photo. Work is progressing slowly, but it is progressing.

I am attaching three versions of the same photo, the second two being progressively closer up views. One thing to note is that I had to duct tape the hose to the sander otherwise it kept pulling off.

    Frank -

The picture is great. Did you run track in school? You must have been fast to set the timer on the camera and run all the way back up the ladder for the shot.

Have you tried a longer hose on for the vaccum?

Festool does sell an antistatic hose that is twice as long (7 metres, rather then 3.5 metres) but it costs $145 and I wonder if the longer, wider hose would be as effective.

If I had to do this sort of thing very often, I might invest in such a hose, but I don't anticipate a frequent requirement.

    Hey Frank,

    Am I missing something?

You are outside and using a vac to collect dust.........or is this just a Festool thing. I dont own any Festool eqpt (YET) so I dont know if it MUST be attached to a vac to work.

    Thanks

    Rob,

Sorry Frank let me help out here.

By collecting the dust the sandpaper wont clog,

will last much longer and as result will be more efficient.

Also Franks nose won"t clog, his cloths will be free of

dust and this makes Mrs Pellow very happy.

I would also bet he has the envy of every contractor

    in the neighborhood.

Rob, the sander will operate without the dust collection. The reasons for using the vacuum are as Per has stated (thanks Per). Except, that things are not qite as good as Per says -there is still some dust that escapes.

    Frank,

I think you will find that you will get excellent

dust colletion, provided you keep the entire

    sander on the surface.

That's correct Per. But, it is not always possible to do so because there are some contours in the old wood that I need to follow.

Hmmm...looks like what I had to do when I was vacuuming the cross beams in the great room! Sans a longer hose, one must raise the tool!

Looks like F needs to come out with the backpack version, maybe take the Mini CT and add some padding and straps, or hooks to hang from. Nice picture. I would hate to see that vac fall off the ladder.
