How to refinish an Ulmia workbench

I have an Ulmia workbench that I've had for many years. The top is pretty stained and didtressed and due to be refinished. I plan to aggressively sand the bench top (Festool RO 125) but not sure what finish would come close to duplicating the original. Any ideas?

I have no idea what was the original finish, but my advise would still be clean it up and just use BLO or BLO/wax. No film finish. This finish gives just enough "glue release" to be useful and is very, very easy to update. I clean up my bench a couple times a year this way.

Thanks Jim. I was leaning towards BLO and maybe a little turpentine. I've searched the web to try and figure out what Ulmia used but can't find anything. Probably the same as Sjoberg benches.

I had a Sjoberg bench years ago and from the factory it had a film finish on it. Needless to say, it didn't last very long...
