Thread: Antique Filigree Platter

    John, are you using a special chuck or did you make a custom mounting rig for this work? I've been interested in the multi-axis on a platter, but get stuck thinking on a safe mounting technique.

    Phil, I used both a chuck recess and a vacuum chuck, with tailstock support whenever possible. The same result can be achieved with a faceplate and a piece of PVC to permit varied orientations of the platter. In fairness to Doug Fisher, he does paid demos teaching his technique and while I use methods that replicate his results, I do not know that they are what he does and I hesitate to provide more detail that may encroach on his turf.
