    Another Sketchup problem

A friend who knows some Sketchup did plans for me. I installed the free version and can look at and print each "page". My problem is that when I print each segment they seem very small and take only part of the page. Is there any way to enlarge them for printing? I asked around and was told that you have to buy a separate program to do this. That seems kind of limiting for a program that is supposed to be "FREE" but I would not be surprised to find out that it's true.

    Hi Ellen,
The way I print quick images without opening Layout (I have the pro version of Sketchup) is to manipulate the model to the view I want, and then go to File - Export - 2D Graphic and save as either a jpeg or PDF. I can then print or email as necessary. Are there dimensions in the plans your friend created?

    Hope this helps.

I always change the viewing properties to Parallel Projection (under the Camera tab) and display the model in Front View (View Toolbar) with Dimensions shown on key points (I actually use separate Layers for dimensions so I can turn them on or off). Also use Zoom Extents to fill the screen. Repeat for Side and Top Views. This assumes you don't have multiple areas of the model in your model space.

The print window in SketchUp is WYSIWYG; the size of the printed output will include the space around the model. Resize the window so it is close to the proportions of the paper you want to use and zoom in on the model.

    Print to Scale

If you want, you can get SketchUp to print to scale. In "Document Setup" you can specify that it print 1" in the model to 1" on the page (or whatever scale you want). You still need to use "Zoom Extents" and you may need to change the shape of your window to avoid printing more pages than you need to print at the scale you want.

I made a quick screen capture video of this:
