Post "Spring back" on hand screw clamps

What causes the Jorgensen hand screw clamp to not hold complete pressure when tightened? Could it be dried glue in the threads or worn threads in the barrel nut?

I had this happen when I had accidentally gotten some lubricating-type solvents onto the threads. A toothbrush and some alcohol on the threads cleaned things up and got me back my grip.

Yep. Spraying brake cleaner on the threads works, too. Those things, for some reason, just don't tolerate any lube.
