Leg Vise Chop - use 8/4 or 10/4

I located a piece of birch for the chop on my Moravian bench leg vise. It's been through the planer and is still a full 10/4.

Not sure if 10/4 is too thick or if I'd be better off with an 8/4 chop?

I used 8/4 for the leg vise on my bench. It works fine. I don't see a problem using 10/4. The worst thing that can happen is 1/2" less capacity in the vise. Use it the way you like, it's your bench.

Use the 10/4. It will be less likely to flex, and aesthetically I believe a thicker than 2" chop is more appealing.
