    Simple bread box

I'm new to woodworking, and planning to make money doing it.

I just completed one of my first projects, a pecan breadbox with a soft maple lid, finished with pure tung oil. It will hold two loaves of bread. It's not as precise as I would like it, but I have good plans on how to do it better next time.

    Critique/advice is welcome.

I like the look of the pecan. How does it work?

I'm still waiting for the tung oil to cure to use it. The smell is mostly gone now so hopefully it won't be long.

Since I made it I learned that walnut oil is also a drying oil, and I probably would have gone with that had I known about it. It'd also still be curing now, but at least I'd be able to use it in the meantime since the smell wouldn't be offensive.

Nice choice of pecan. Some can be so white but, the salmon and reddish colors are very nice. The bit of natural edge lends a nice interest. You have probably learned to avoid pure oils for anything that you don't have a lot of time to wait on the finish. I also avoid oils for any surface that will be enclosed like a drawer or the inside of a cabinet.
