    Stanley No 60 Miter Box

As I have decided to establish a hand tool section of the shop I remembered this miter box that a friend gave me 20+ years ago.

I had left it in our little barn. It cuts surprisingly well. I wondered how the experts viewed its quality/fitness. I found the "manual" online and plan to give it a through going over. Anything that I should be looking out for? The saw cuts pretty well.

Blue bird houses with grandchildren will be its first order of business.

    Thanks.

I have probably a half dozen ways to cut miters with power tools, but recently I picked up a Stanley 244 miter box. (And also got rid of a horrible import knockoff of the same thing that I had picked up 15-20 years ago). The 244 is about a hundred years old; yours is newer and several evolutionary steps beyond mine. As long as the pivot moves smoothly and the locking mechanism holds tightly, and as long as the saw is held securely vertical in the frame, and the cutting action is smooth, then I'd think you've got a winner.
