Darn I like wood I'd posts.It looks familiar I just can't think. I'll guess Manzanita it's a weak guess.🤔
I'm not sure if you even have it out there, but maybe Mountain Laurel?
Here is a piece that I'm sure is Mountain Laurel. It is real hard and heavy. It turns and smooths real well. If you use a nice sharp smoothing plane on it the surface shines almost like a polished stone.

Andrew, although it is not manzanita, that is a good guess. Manzanita has a thinner bark. That Mountain Laurel looks just like it.

If it is mountain laurel it would be fantastic for handles.
The one on the left looks like oak.
