Thread: Beech Hat

    Beech Hat

I have not turned Beech before but will again when I get the chance. Technically this is a work in progress as it has only one coat of WOP finish (more to come). I do not plan to make it glossy. It fits me so about a size 7-1/4. Comments and critiques welcome.

Oh man Dennis, that's an outstanding hat wear it with pride. What size of lathe did you turn it on, and is the hat and brim all one piece?

Really nice hat as usual. Cannot even think of an improvement to that.

You really did that piece of wood proud. I like the special touches to the hat band and the little bead at brim edge. Excellent. Wear it at SWAT?

Beautiful hat and from a noticeably difficult wood, did you do any special treatment to the wood before or after turning it, I always have had Beechwood shrink more than other woods, so had to turn it thin to finish.
    Have fun and take care

Very nice. Really like the detail in the band and rim. Wood grain is perfect.

Very well done Dennis. Great piece of timber and your detail sets it all off.

    Aren't beach hats typically wicker?

Really wonderful. How do you warp the rim so precisely?

  15. excellent work Dennis!

I really like the detail (bead) on the brim.
