Thread: Mille Strati

    Mille Strati

This is a natural edged hollow form that I turned from a piece of spalted oak burl. It is 7 3/4" W X 10 1/4"H and is about 3/8" thick. I call it “Mille Strati,” it’s Italian for a thousand layers. C&C welcomed.

Can't tell what the opposite side looks like but this side appears to have enough decay to highlight the piece well but not so much to make it a challenge to turn. Very pretty Steve.

The wood looks really good but I think you did a great job on the form! Nice work!

Thanks everyone for the comments and complements. This was a fun piece to turn and was really wet when I turned it. When it dried there are some nice small surface distortions.

David, here is a picture of the other side of the HF. You are correct, the spalting is primarily just the black spalt lines. The wood was still in very good shape.
