Shooting Board #1 - Variation on a Couple of themes

This is my first shooting board. I borrowed ideas from various boards that have been featured here, including Derek's boards from this thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthre...Shooting-Board). I also liked the idea of having a loosely coupled fence which I borrowed from Timothy Rousseau's (Fine Woodworking) you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwYJhfChDdM.

I used MDF for the base and the ramp and decided to wrap the edges in some scrap and to laminate the surfaces with 1/4 beech plywood. I'll be using a #7 as my shooter for now.

    Hi Joe

The board looks good. The only change I would suggest is the round off (or chamfer) the trailing edge of the fence, as it is going to spelch (break out).

    Regards from Perth

    Nice!

It looks like you haven't used it yet because you've still got lacquer the vertical track and I can't see a step. Be careful you don't split the dovetail end grain when you run the plane into them for this first time!
