how did Nakashima attach a wall cabinet base?

    image.jpgimage.jpeg

    a Nakashima hanging wall cabinet.

how did they attach the base?

The second photo Shows the cabinet top attached with dovetails, And the base of the cabinet is attached with four "plugs." Are these plugs round tenons, dowels, are they concealing screws, or something else?

the first photo shows similar plugs holding in the dividers.

I believe they are concealing screws.

I propose that a sexier method is to use half blind dovetails. The tails being on the base panel as to not show through.

Dowels at the bottom edge run the risk of breaking out the short grain. The dividers can be built to utilize through tenons, wedged if so desired.
