Here's a picture of the design Oneida sent me. Materials list comes to about $1000.00

Makes sense, although it would be nice if you could reposition the cyclone so that the line goes to it straight, rather than with that last hard bend.

I bought the 5 hp super dust gorilla and it works great.

I have nothing good to say about the Oneida design service. I sent them my information with some issues I have with my shop layout. What they sent me would not work. I did contact them about it and no help. Of course their solution was very expensive.

I ended up with my own design using DWV pipe, homemade blast gates, and DWV fittings. My system works well and gives me very good CFM which I have actually measured.

My suggestion is to take your time and build it yourself. If you have the time, you can save a lot of money.

Did some more cleanup this afternoon, preparing for the arrival of the dust collector. After I was done, I snapped a few pictures of the current state of the shop.

Still needs another couple rounds of blowing down with the air hose. I'm not sure the previous owner ever cleaned it.

Rented a core drill today and drilled the access hole from the garage to the basement.

Greg, How much was the rental and how long did it take to drill the hole?

The rental was $225, and it took about 5 minutes to actually do the drilling. There was probably another 45 minutes in measuring and setup. After drilling, there was an hour of cleanup to remove the mix of dust and water the saw creates. If you don't have a hammer drill, the saw required a 1/2" anchor to hold it to the wall. So people wanted to do this should be aware they might have to rent both tools.

    - The rental cost for a 6" drill would have been significantly cheaper.

Yea, these special hole saws cut through that kind of block "like buttah". Now the four inch holes through the 18" thick limestone walls here when our electric service was updated took...4 hours. Each.

That really turned out great, Duncan!

I've been going back and forth on the lighting for the shop.

Current thoughts are four strips of 2 bulb florescent fixtures mounted flush to the ceiling. They would run in line with the HVAC duct. Each row would have four lights, for 16 total fixtures.

Not enough? Overkill? Looking for some thoughts.

This weekend starts the big ducting installation. I'll be sure to keep posting pictures.

How big is your space again? I put 8 four ft LED fixtures in my 480 square-foot shop and it seems about right. It's nice and bright. Fixtures were around $50 a piece box at Lowe's. I would go LED over a regular fixture.

The space is ~ 30 x 24, but the ceilings are only a little over 7'
