    veneers

been woodworking for a long time but never did any veneering. Just like to know what type of backing would work the best to give the best looking job . Will be veneering the faceplates of cabinets after making new door fronts.

    thanks

So,, you want to reface the frames of existing cabinets? Most folks use 1/8" ply on face frames to eliminate telegraphing the imperfections. Wood backed double ply can also be used if you prep the frames really well. Single ply or paper backed is not recommended.

Typically 1/16" veneers are minimum to prevent telegraphing of imperfections. Advantage is, they are readily available, and provide a fair amount of material to allow not sanding through.
