Throw me some places that sell small hinges, no brass please

I was also impressed with the quality of the SOSS barrel hinges I bought. I can't speak to the quality of their flagship hinge.

I agree with Andrew. Be prepared to pay for good quality. You'll receive dividends when you install and each time you open the box.

For boxes, you have to first decide if you're going to use some kind of stop hinge or if you're going to use a non-stop hinge with a chain (for example). Brusso makes some very good quality stop hinges, including quadrant hinges, side rail hinges, and regular leaf stop hinges. Woodcraft sells a side rail hinge that might be less expensive than the Brusso.

If you're going to go with a non-stop hinge, there are many, many people who make them and at extremely low prices.

I've always meant to try it myself. In the horizontal application, I think there would be a natural stop against the back at about 95 degrees or so.

I noticed these on the Rockler site that might work for you, especially if you want an integral stop feature. Not in the same quality or cost category as a Brusso but might be right for your project: http://www.rockler.com/105-degree-st...eviews-content. Look at the others that Rockler stocks and you may find something else that works.

Oh, okay. That won't work for me. I need one where the top completely covers the box (not an inset top) and where it stops the lid about 95 to 105 degrees. All the small hinges that do that are fairly expensive.

I ordered some hinges from them for a blanket chest I just finished and was happy with them. Probably not as nice as brusso but about a 1/4 of the price.

Take a look at my post above with the link to the Rockler small box stop hinge. It's only $3.99. Might work for you. I think they make it in 8" also in case your box dimensions would allow for one longer hinge, piano style, instead of two.

I looked at those, but two hinges, each 2" long would look awkward on a box that's about 12" long. I'm looking for some that are maybe 1 1/4" long.

But I'll go to Rockler and take a look at them. The price is certainly right.
