    Norm Abram's Shaker Blanket Chest

I tackled this Shaker Blanket chest this past summer but only recently got around to finishing it. The basic idea came from Norm's NYW plans with some of my own minor adjustments. I biscuit-joined the slats for the top and likewise added a breadboard edge before using a round-over router bit on three sides of the top. I used a birch plywood bottom (as my wife doesn't like the smell of cedar). This is one my first projects incorporating floating panels in rails and stiles on 4 sides. I used good (but not clear) pine which received a primer and two coats of paint for the finish. Unexpectedly, we get a lot of nice comments on the color as it really goes well in the room.
