    Pierced Bowl

This is my latest turning. The bowl is about 6" Diameter. The top ring is 8" diameter and the total height is about 10". I used aromatic cedar because I have a bunch of it available. It turns well, but it is brittle so it cracks easily. The bowl is segmented so that the grain runs parallel to the inside groves. I used a dremel tool with a .080 cutter for the outside groves and a slitting saw for the inside groves. The bottom groves were cut with a parting tool.

OK that's cool! You said pierced - curious as to what you cut the slots with.

I can imagine this as an amazing and unique lamp with a low-level light inside.

  4. That is quite beautiful, Ed! Very artistic and creative. Very nice form, and adding the embellishments takes it to another level.

Very cool Ed. It looks like some kind of beading inside. Do you have any photos of the inside?

No, it's not thin enough yet.

I used a Dremel tool with an .080" roughing end mill for the outside slots and the same Dremel tool with a slitting saw blade for the inside slots. I'll see if I can get some pictures of the inside.

I used aromatic Cedar because I happen to have some on hand. The bowl is segmented so that the grain runs parallel to the inside rings. The lid is also segmented. The bowl is about 6" in diameter and about 8" tall.
