    Architectural details

This house is being renovated but being where it is the local historical society got involved . They wanted to preserve the architectural details. 3 of the headers over the windows were rotted along with one of the drops as well as a corbel panel.
So I made patterns from the existing headers . I used one of the remaining corbels and the photo of the neighboring house to build the panel.
Everything is built up from 4/4 stock. Pine was used ( not my choice) as this is what was originally used.
It was a fun and simple project as the carving was fast simple and loose.

Really nice work. Must have taken some good imagination to do this. Well done indeed!

Thank you Al. But truthfully most of the details were spelled out nicely for me to simply copy. Naturally I have many photos of various details as well as making patterns from the existing headers. Placing a paper over a section then rubbing a pencil over it gave me enough references to clean it up into a good pattern.

Very clean carving even if loose and fast. I dare say it's cleaner carving than the original.

    Thanks Jim.
i toyed with the idea of mixing it up a bit more so mine didn't look so new and out of place. But I get so used to carving relatively cleanly . I'm sure I could have even gone so far as creating the aging and wear but with their schedule of having it sold and the owner moving in in a week and a half gave me no time . Just git'er done!
