    Tool chest of Cherry

Still had some scraps left over from the last projects. Made a box to hold some layout tools in.

Hand plane to raise a panel. Heartwood section down the middle, sapwood elsewhere

Hand cut 1/2" dovetails join the 1/2" thick side pieces. Stanley #45 to make the grooves for the top and panel panels to sit in, and a #23 bead cutter used to make the bead detail.

Brass hinges. Front still needs a latch installed, right now it looks about like this (minus the hinges)
    Tools?

Yes! I notice it's nice and square! Like it! And the sap wood free thinker top match gives it a bit of authentic old time practical thrift. But perhaps not as thrifty as using the boss's wood!

Great use of material. Always handy to have things corralled.

And was even able to get a better picture of the lid..

Had to fight the camera abit on the lid.....kept trying to say the wood was yellow? This shows it a bit closer to what it actually is.

Beautiful use of stock looking for a smaller project. One suggestion. If I were to set up this kind of box for use in my shop, I would try to store the combination square with the combination head on it and the other two heads separately. It would quickly make me nuts if I had to take it apart to use it and put it back together to store it. Your mileage may vary.

I was planning to piece together some strips I have accumulated to make a box this weekend. Will have to see if it turns out well enough to post.
