Lot's of good machines out there, some WS's will allow you to test a machine before purchasing.
If you purchase a 110V machine, I recommend a dedicated 20+ amp circuit with the appropriate gauge wiring, it makes a huge difference in welding performance on the 110V machines.
** A excellent quality welding hood and welding fumes respirator would be the first purchase I made. Some type of powered vent to exhaust the fumes out of your shop would be the second.

Well, the hunt is over! I decided to order an Eastwood 175 Mig and cart. Price and great reviews led me to it. I really didn't want to do what I normally do when I buy machines for the first time. That is, I buy low, soon regret buying low, then eventually move up. I think I got a good starter hobbyist mig welder and one that will do me fine for years to come. If I love welding, I may look closer at the plasma cutter as well.
Now, all I have to do is save up for a gas bottle and helmet. Thank you all for your help.
