    Virtual Reality anyone?

A few weeks ago I decided to get a VR headset. I have a Samsung S7 phone, so it was a no brainer to get the Samsung GearVR unit. This thing is awesome. It's amazing what a phone can do these days. Samsung teamed up with Oculus (owned by Facebook) to create a top notch VR system. Google also has its Cardboard apps that work well. There are many others.

    Nobody?
Interesting that there are 1,856 views and 31 replies about booze, in one day.
Sure says a lot for where people's priorities are.

I've got a thing for my phone and a link that allows me to upload SketchUp models and look at them in 3D. As you move the phone you can look around. It's not all that useful for most of the models I draw though because it doesn't let you walk around the model. I think there are other apps out there that would but I haven't had time to investigate.

I haven't done any virtual reality yet. Probably because I don't have a VR headset. But someday I'd like to experience it.

    Porn.

No, really there are many types of movies, travel channels, of course there are games. Roller coasters can be quite the charge. Fright channels. Learn about the solar system and space.
This is all still a developing medium. I'm trying to figure out a 3D game called HeroBound. A little viking like guy you guide through mazes and fight the monsters, collecting jewels and weapons as you go. I never liked these types of games until I found this one.

It's like when HDTV first came out, they could make commercial after commercial promoting it but until you saw it for yourself you had no idea what it was like. I've been reading about the Sony PlayStation VR set. I'd like to experience it, is there anyplace like Best Buy giving demos?

I see the commercial but have not tried it. Don't know anyone who has it or has tried it. I'm trying to phase out gadgets, not add more. Sure looks neat, I just don't think it's for me. I'm not a scotch drinker but for some reason that thread entertains me, especially Prashun's descriptions. For some reason it makes me envision drinking gasoline poured from an ashtray in a peat moss glass!

BestBuy and Walmart sometimes have demos. You would have to check with the stores.

There are some very low cost units available. Mattel has a Viewmaster headset, and there are many other branded units. $20 is not a lot to find out if you like it, or get sick with it. Literally. Google has Cardboard units and a Daydream model.
What really matters is if your phone can handle it. A high-res screen makes it all the more enjoyable. Phones can get hot running this stuff.

Playstation has a unit, and there is the Oculus Rift for PC use. It takes a high end PC to run it satisfactorily. Those can be quite expensive units.
VRheads is a great resource for info.
