    Thomas Jefferson Spirit Chest

Last year, while looking for some ideas for our house, I ran across a page describing the Jefferson Spirit Chest. After a bit more searching, I found a page about it on Monticello.org , and another that has a replica for sale.
But, the replica is no where close to the original.
After some more searching, I found a book on Google called “Thomas Jefferson on Wine” that had another image Actually, it was a worse image than the one on the Monticello page.
It looks like it is a basic box with corners that are just mitered together with iron corners for protection. It also appears that the top and bottom are just nailed on to the case and supported with more iron straps.
I can get the dimensions and a basic description on the Monticello pages, but I am wondering if anyone would have any better pictures or details.

    Thanks

    Jay

I think you are right about the construction. Unlike the "cellarettes " which were house furnishings, that box was mainly to make sure the bottles did not break because of "wagon turbulence".
