    Cleaning Fine Files?

Got another question for the group. How do you clean your very fine files? The typical file card/brush doesn't seem to get into the very narrow grooves on the finer files?
    Thanks

If file card does not work, then i go to a small wire brush. If that fails I take a scribe and clean individually. All methods running parallel to file teeth.

An old time diemaker told me he cleaned his files by filing a piece of brass with them.

That is what I do for steel in a fine file.

My fine files will get cleaned with a fine brass or steel bristled brush that looks like a tooth brush. Seems to work quite well.

    Thanks Jim
Has anybody considered using a brass wire (wheel) brush on a grinder? Seems like it would be faster .... tough on the files?

Faster = more force and yes, tough on files.

I don't want "tough on files" I will go with the brush, or brass

Personally, being someone who cleans his files A LOT at his day job, I have found a quality brass wire brush to be my preferred method. A brand such as torrington is one I recommend and will last a good while as long as you are careful.
