    Dyed Box Elder HF

The lacquer is not cured enough for more than timid buffing but I doubt that I can get a good picture once it is glossy anyway. I played with some dye on this piece, black first then red and lastly some yellow. About 11" diameter and 3-1/2" tall. Comments and critiques welcome.

Excellent job on the dyes - brings out the grain without overpowering. Good clean form too. Definitely a show piece!

Nice piece Dennis, are you planning a lid/finial?

Fabulous wood, shape, dye job, and finish. Save me a piece of that wood. I think a lid(Pueblo shape) would be a shame on this piece.

Stunning wood and the dye did a really nice job of highlighting all that curl! Nice work on the HF form also. You sure picked one of the harder shapes to hollow but did a really nice job on it!

The title of the post says it is box elder maple. Welcome to the "creek" by the way!

Fabulous job! Great shape, color, and finish. May I assume that you sanded away some dye each time before adding the next color? I would love to color more of my pieces, but don't have it mastered as of yet.

Way to augment Mother Nature. Beautiful piece and turned so well. Looks like a keeper.

That is beautiful. Are sanding back after each color?

That's a great piece, and perfectly proportioned.

Did you turn it green, or dry?

Did you use a captive hollowing tool?

    Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments; I did sand most of the color off between coats of dye. It was dry before I turned it. Hollowed with an arm brace system and home-made tooling.
