    Loom Knitting Hook Upgrade

There's a group of folks at our church who get together once a month to knit hats and scarves and such for the homeless and disadvantaged. Many are golden agers, and have mentioned numerous times that the 3/8" diameter plain red plastic hooks supplied with the looms are difficult to use in several ways. I thought I would take a stab at helping out. This is what we came up with. I say we, because it was a callaborative effort with my wife developing prototypes and having her feedback. She also found the idea for the knitted rubber band no-slip cover and made those.
    Materials:
    Knitting Hook
    3/4" sq x 6" turning blank
    3/8" drill
    Glue
No-Damage Hair Rubber Bands (about 1/2" dia)
I drilled the hole to depth, then chucked up a 3-8" x 2" steel dowel in the drive spindle and pressed on the workpiece. I predrilled for the live center spike at the other end. Turn to desired profile. Ours were 5/8" diameter. Cut off live center end and finish freehand. My wife found the rubber band knitted handle cover tutorial on YouTube. Or, you can leave it plain, or finish as desired.
