    Enough PLATTERS already!

Just Jokin', I did get something partially done last night. Last week, i went to the city burn area and found a 30' Cherry Tree layin there. Sunday, chainsaw in hand, I cut up and brought home about 300 lbs in 8 - 12" slabs. Monday I cut htem into bowl, vase, and pen blanks. There was one piece that looked like it wanted to be something right now, so I took it to the lathe wet.

It's not very big just 4" diameter, 2" tall with a wall thickness of 1/16". I wanted to see if it would warp or crack, so only put two coats of oil on it and hand rubbed it. Will put a final finish on it later.

    Thanks for lookin'

I have done so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to do anything with nothing......

P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.

  4. Cherry is one my favorite woods to turn... my wife has decided it's now her favorite.

Nice bowls, and great wood score! Will be interested to hear how much movement you see in them.

    Thanks for the pictures!

Very nice Bruce! everyone loves that cherry including me.

If you have gotten that rascal down to 1/16 you are getting em pretty thin. I feel good when I get to 1/8 havent worked up the nerve to try thinner yet.

BTW congrats on the cherry score.........nice find for sure.

Wish I had more space......................There is still another 20' of tree there.

Just don't have any place to put any more. Anyone want some, let me know and we'll see if we can get together.

    1/16" isn't THIN enough?????????
Heck......mine start trying to explode around the 1/4" thickness.

Nice job on the bowl, hope it doesn't move a lot on ya.
Cherry sure makes the shop smell good, don't it?

I know what you mean, Joe. Started getting vibrations at about 3/16th's, so I rode the outside, lightly, with my finger.

BTW, that 20' tree is FREE wood!

Hey Dennis. You want the Tree???????? JEst pint yer puikumup north towards the golden arch. Jump on I55 North to I74 West. Stop when you get to the BIG RIVER and turn back South. After aboutnine hours of hard drivin' yer in the neighborhood. I'll help cut it up and load it.

    Deflection update.

Well folks, just an update. 7 days and counting deflection is less than 1/16" - not bad. Don't expect it to move any more.
