    Shop Vac Attachments

I would like to find some attachments for my Rigid shop vac, but neither of the Borgs have much. I looked on line and didn't get overwhelmed by the choices there either. Mostly looking for better, more flexible attachments, but also connectors and adapters so I can use larger hoses with smaller vacs, or smaller hoses with larger ones.

Does anyone have a suggestion for where to look? Some place they have bought from in the past?

I feel your pain. I have a cardboard box filled with various adaptors that didn't work for whatever connection I was trying to make at the time. Just comes with the territory.

For the attachments themselves, Rockler has a fairly good selection. I've found their small hose adaptor kit useful for things like sanders.

I also like the Dust Right hoses that they sell. Much more flexible than what comes with Ridgid and Shop Vac machines, and they seem just as durable.

I'm not connected to Rockler, in fact I'm kinda pissed at them at the moment.

I've seen them on Rockler and Woodcraft's sites. I've also seen them on Amazon - just search Amazon for "dust collection fittings". Just bought one there, for less than Rockler or Woodcraft, and lots of them have free shipping with Prime membership.

Shop Vacs are not marketed as very precision instruments. They are fundamental and crude. I did find a coupler at Rockler that connects two of the "male" or smaller diameter ends together for linking hoses. I picked up the reverse of this connector at Sears (their vacs are basically the same as Ridgid's). I found buying a smaller diameter hose that connects to the 2-1/4" Shop Vac hose like a whip to be more useful than a gaggle of adapters cobbled together which becomes long and awkward. Man, has the price on those gone up. Glad I bought a couple of spares. BTW, the small end fit perfectly over the o-ring on the Bosch vac adapter on my router or ROS and fits the Bosch adapter on my Colt.

I have a shop vac hooked to a 5 gallon bucket chip separator and then rigged to the Orange extension hose, coupled with a Rockler flexible extension. It works well, but each connection has to be fine tuned, usually with a layer or two of duct tape to get a good friction fit. It is a finicky business, and what you end up with is several different sizes connectors.
