    Arbor change?

Been looking at a 1950's Craftsman 8" table saw, that is in nice shape. It has a 1/2" arbor. Is it possible to change the arbor to 5/8" without having to make a new arbor? Wondering if an arbor from a newer sears saw might fit??

Thinking about making it into a permanent box joint machine. Another of my crazy ideas.

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Can it simply be shimmed?

At least Freud makes a 5/8" to 1/2" bushing for blades. Wouldn't that do?

If I use it for box joints it would use my current dado sets which are all 5/8". Each time I change the dado size, I could put bushings in each piece, but that is not practical, as I still need to use them in my regular saw. I could find a decent 10" saw, with a 5/8 arbor, but kinda liked this one since it is nice shape.

You need some sleeve bearings. McMaster Carr has 1/2" ID, 5/8" OD ones from 3/8" to more than 1", for not much money.
