    Walnut Step Stool

I just completed this folding step stool, based off plans found in Woodsmith. I modified their plans by removing the cutout in the bottom step, which I don't think is necessary. Also, their plans call for epoxying metal rods (i.e. hinge pins) into the main stiles. I didn't like that idea, so instead I have the rods sitting in bushings, which allows them to rotate freely. The only thing left to do is find some kind of rubber pads for the feet so that they don't scratch up our hardwood floors.

The walnut coordinates nicely with our kitchen. The finish is satin Arm-R-Seal over Seal-A-Cell, all of it wiped on. That discoloration on the rail under the top step is just heartwood vs. sapwood, and doesn't look anywhere near as obvious in person.

    Thanks,
    Steve

That's a really nice piece and much better looking than the typical metal one! Great project!

That looks nice and should be useful as well. I might like to build something similar.
