Thread: First time turner-Chisel handles-help??

An old fashioned way is "chalk fitting"
Chalk up the handle tenon and jam it into the chisel socket.

The high spot will have less chalk on it. There will be a mark in the chalk.

Very carefully file or scrape off only the spots with marks. Re-chalk and go at it again. This isnt a deep cut - you only scrape off a teeny bit of material.

Once the fit is good - wipe off all the chalk, spray some CHEAP hairspray or spray lacquer in the socket and bang it together good.

Very good tip....thanks...I've also learned to be very light when making the tenon...you can always take little more off but not add..
