    getting the quill back the tailstock one a Vega lathe

    Hi,

    I managed to unscrew the from the tailstock quill drilling though a pepper griinder. I did it once before and can't rememer what I did.

    I've done something similar on a metal lathe and the compound and cross-slide.

    If it was me, I'd loosen the locking screw slightly, stick the quill back into the tailstock, apply pressure and then turn the tailstock handle in the opposite direction that got you into trouble - - that is, retract it while applying pressure.
