Thread: Full extension drawer slide recommendation?

    Full extension drawer slide recommendation?

I'm making a cabinet that will have 12 drawers, each the same size, roughly 6 inches tall by 15" wide by 22" deep. It will be in the shop (part of a mitre saw station), and some of the drawers will be loaded up with heavy objects. There are many choices and I'd like some advice on what brand would be best. Accuride, Blum, Knape & Vogt, Centerline, what's the difference? This is a personal project and I don't mind spending more to get high quality. Would like over extension slides for the top row to clear top overhang.

    Thanks,

    Len

KV makes 90, 100, 125, 150, and 200# side mounted, full extension slides with 1" over travel. I've used them several times and they have always worked very well. Made in USA, too. The drawers you plan to build aren't all that large, so unless you are putting lead in them I would think 100# ones will be fine. I'd put 1/2" bottoms in the drawer boxes.

Blum Tandems are all I use. They have a really good feel.

    Ditto. And they're highly adjustable.

Blum Tandem have two drawbacks for me using them for shop cabinets. One, you loose significant vertical space compared to side mounted slides and two, they cost more. But it's the loss of vertical space that's the bigger issue for me. If it wasn't for them being undermounts I'd never use them.

Interesting point, John. I'm only looking for side mount slides.

For shop cabinets I use KV TT100 from Woodworkers Hardware, they are full extension, side mounts, 100# rated and cost approx $4.50.

    For commissions, I use Accuride.
