    How about painting Basswood?

For some reason, maybe it's seasonal, I'm having all sorts of problems finding wood for a project.
I need roughly 100 board feet of anything I can paint.

So far, I've been able to come up with about 65/70 board feet of poplar & maple.
They also have 50 board feet of basswood.

This is for rails and stiles only, not panels - if that makes any difference.

Think you'll find Basswood is quite soft, even softer than Poplar (410 vs 540 on the Janka scale). Personally I would use Maple (1450 Janka) for rails/stiles as its tougher and won't be affected as much by wear and tear

    Got it - thanks George!

Every place I've tried for Poplar and/or Maple only has about a third of the material I need.

It wouldn't be bad if the places were all close together and I could just get some from a few different places.
Problem is, they are scattered all over the place.

    Oh well.....

I give that place you sent me a call on Monday and see what they have.
