    Axis motor problems - any ideas/thoughts/suggestions ?

Ugh!! Ok, so I got this 50W 2004 LaserPro Explorer, and it was supposedly running fine for the last owner, but now I get this 'oops' on startup. Previous owner said he put in a new Y axis motor.

On startup, the laser travels on X axis to the back right corner just fine, each & every time.
Then it starts forward on the Y axis to about the same mid point each time - once it made it all the way down to the front left.
As it moves diagonally back and left, it clunks to a full stop - and then nothing.

    Here's the vid >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRF8Ol1RROA

My non-technical mind says the motor should be fine since there is some movement. Could it be a software/firmware problem? is there a way to restore to factory defaults? Any suggestions on companies/persons that can troubleshoot remotely? Or are in the Sacramento CA vicinity that make house calls?

Mine will move like that as that is the last starting point. Can you use the arrows to the place you want it to start then run your file

I have one of these (Gary's old one ) - these use a pair of hall-effect switches to zero out the X and Y, triggered by the thin metal plates on the laser head...
    trig1.jpgtrig2.jpg

you'll notice on bootup as the laser head moves right and the X switch is triggered, the gantry stops, then goes back slightly then forward slightly, then heads down to find the Y trigger plate. When the Y is triggered, the head does the same stopo/back/forward thing and then heads to the top left corner...

In your video, your machine ACTED as if the Y switch WAS triggered, because the the gantry followed the same stop/back/forward/routine...

This tells me the machine THINKS the hall effect switch was tripped, and that's a very good indication you have a bad Y switch. The opposite problem would be the switch wouldn't trigger, and the gantry would slam the front wall.

You probably just need to replace that circuit card...
