David Barron Style (Or small dovetail) Hammer

Figured I'd share a little hammer I made recently. I've been intrigued by the David Barron style hammers and the ability to choke up on the head for better control. The Round ends just don't do it for me aesthetically so I figured I'd do a different take on the handle.

The head is brass, and is actually pretty heavy. The handle is lacewood, and the wedge is walnut. The mortise in the head is tapered. It weighs around 22 ounces, so it's a pretty persuasive hammer. One face is canted and covered with leather for use in putting parts together or for lighter chisels. Other than drilling the initial hole in the brass, it was a neander build.

That looks like it could give a persuasive wallop.

Thanks Everyone. I've used it a bit now, and the short handle makes it quite easy to control the head despite it's weight.

Incidentally, I would credit Kevin Glen Drake with that hammer design, rather than David Barron. Here is one of Kevin's Tite Hammers ..
