The other thing the FDA is doing is to determine the type of Laser, insuring it is not going to be used on that extraneous hair.

You know John with an open laser we can branch out. Hair and tattoo removal, while you wait service no less!

What is really scary read up on robotic laser cutting and welding. I saw one picture on the OHSA website or someplace where a laser attached to robotic arm made a hole in 9mm thick steel. Those are the kind where you need to go inside the work area, After its locked and tagged out.

So let me think here... How safe..

A car is perfectly safe. Just don't step in front of one that's moving.

An acetylene torch is safe-- just keep the flame pointed THAT-a-way.

Electricity is safe. Just don't become its path to ground.

A kitchen knife is safe. Just keep it away from your throat. And fingers.

Those things that fire projectiles... I'll leave that one alone...

Laser engravers are safe. Just remember laser beams are hot, and they can ricochet.

Almost everything we consider safe can be dangerous. And many dangerous things are perfectly safe... Until you forget to respect the dangerous part.
    So, don't forget.

Kev, I have part of my shop door window covered, and a little Laser in Use tag I got someplace stuck on the inside of that window. I agree anything is only as safe as the user.

We have all sorts of regulations here some of them make sense...some of them are basic common sense, some of them make no sense

On the open area stuff, a couple of years ago a maker who designed and built a 445nm powered machine had all their machines seized and were fined 80,000 Euro's for safety infringements before they got to market

Very few direct import Chinese machines would pass EU, CE requirements for safety in use for industrial work. The lack of a raised E-Stop on the glowforge for example is going to be a big problem here
    You did what !

No Bill, I'll skip the hair removal service. And come to think about it Dave, I don't remember seeing any fiber with a a raised estop. I've got to go look at a couple of US makers sites...

Hello! This is my first post here, sorry for my English... Beside danger for our eyes, there is one more danger. During the engraving, we inhale a lot of smoke and other residues and debris which is definitely a health hazard. Although a lot of users places an exhausting hood adjusted to working area, it is much more efficient to enclosure working area. So, my advice is – enclosure is better. The goal is to make it the way you can easily open it if needed. You can check my solutions, I used Al Bond and Acrylic for materials.
