    For those who are not fans of "Guardians of the Galaxy", there is a character named "Groot" whose only words are "I am Groot" and then his racoon friend understands everything he means by "I am Groot." Groot is a tree - sometimes a young one, sometimes fully grown. When I turned these chalices, the grain pattern looked like Groot. I just need somebody who loves photoshop to add a mouth and eyes.

    Yes, poplar. I assume the green will fade to a soft brown in the future.

    Looks great, Brian! I don't work much w/poplar, but I really like looks of your project. Out here in NW Kansas, I don't have much of choice in finer woods. Poplar is expensive here, but I'm thinkin' I might have to do somethin' like that! Awesome work!

    That is interesting, because it is one of the most inexpensive in southern California. I don't know what the source is.
