Using heat press vinyl in laser. Img inside.

You guys may already know this, but I was at the ISS show in Nashville yesterday and I was shown a little t-shirt with a design on it and they said it was done on a laser, no weeding.
I finally found the guy doing them and it was ULS.

I naturally knew it was going to be a waste of time since I dont own one of their lasers, but anyway he enjoyed telling me it will not work on my laser. He said their lasers can do it because of the wavelength.

So I dug around on youtube and found a video done by Stahls and of course they are using a ULS. Anyway is it not possible to burn the vinyl away and leave the carrier?

I did try it, on my Rabbit, but it was not as clean as their. Is it really not possible?

Saw the same demo at the MBM show in Arlington. Also sat in on the ULS seminar and talked to the speaker about it. We got some samples to try but haven't had time yet.

What he told us was: Any RF tube should work pretty well, especially one with a small dot size (high PPI). He also mentioned that for whatever reason, the 9.3um laser tubes work the best with all colors. The traditional 10.6 um will work, but seems to have some problems with some of the other colors; it doesn't laser them off completely and will leave some residue.

Anyways, that's what he told us. I only have a small sample, but I had planned to try it on both my Boss laser and the smaller RF tube Summit once I have that tuned properly.

Oh and also, the material is specifically made for lasering. So I think they call it "vinyl" but it doesn't have any PVC in it I don't believe.

I dont think it is a specific vinyl. I use Siser Easyweed and like Stahls it is polyurethane. Funny thing when I walked up to the ULS booth the guy was in the process of trying a different brand of vinyl and it didnt work, threw it in the trash and I told him you never know till you try. But I do know he was getting great results with a Stahls vinyl.

EDIT: Their using Stahls Fashon FIlm.

Hmmm, I'll try to call Stahls on Monday and ask if I remember. Now I'm curious.

They definitely told us this was a new product that could now be lasered. When we got our samples she had to go grab the stuff, it wasn't the normal roll of heat trasnfer vinyl they had out front.
