    Half wall built-in thing

I am not sure what something like this is called. I started this about 7 months ago and finally finished it up. We are slowly updating our house. This was my wife's idea. Now that it is done, I think it looks much better than the original railing. The construction is maple plywood with a hard maple top and stair treads. Here are the final results. The kitchen floor has to go next.

    We started with this railing.

The unit was so big I had to build it in 2 pieces because I was the only one that was moving it around.

    The finish is white Laquer.

    Thanks for looking

That's a very nice design and very well done. How did you apply the finish, by hand? Looks great.

Thanks guys. I can't take credit for the idea. My wife saw a picture on the dreaded Pintrest.

Her: "Look at this great idea I saw on Pintrest."
    Me: "Not again."
Her: "It would be great if you could also add storage on the kitchen side."
Me: "But our wall isn't straight like that."
    Her: "Make it work!"

WAAAYYYYY better than the railing...so nice your wife thinks you are a talented woodworker and trusts you to make beautiful things you can both enjoy. Great looking & great job!

Beautiful work. It really adds to the room(s)

Looks beautiful! I'm sure you'll enjoy all that extra storage space as well.

I also feel your pain when it comes to wife's and pinterest. Mine is always sharing stuff with me as well as pulling pages out of Pottery Barn magazines.

Funny thing is that out of all the difficult stuff on this project she is most impressed with the 3 little stair treads. She wanted to use the flooring so it would match. Solid wood treads and top were about the only thing that were non negotiable in my mind. She didn't really want white kickers on the stairs either. I have been asked when we are starting the upper stairs.

Beautiful work Cary, I don't think I have ever seen a better idea for a room separator.
You deserve a golden hammer for this one.
