Near as my research can find out....the little saw MIGHT have been a Disston No. 090 and etched for a hardware store brand...

I don't know why I would do it, but if you were making panel saw out of a handsaw, you could file a nib in it just to be doing it. hmmm

never used simple green..... should I buy some? Your results are very good. How does it compare to say a citrus cleaner? (and no, I don't have a good handle on what that is either, but I do have some).

Simple Green seems to work nicely enough. It is also a de-greaser.

There is a small amount of citric acid (< 1%) in simple green... not very strong in this manner. Not sure if the other ingredients are capable of attacking rust stains.

Others have been using Simple Green and a 3M purple Scratch pad to clean rusty saw plates. Seens to work well enough, too.

This saw was already a panel saw, Disston 090. As for a nib

I'll leave that to the Disston No 7 handsaws......

    Hi Steven,
Thanks for the Simple Green and the razor tip. As for the nib was Disston the only saw maker who made them with it?

About everyone was doing nibs, for a while.....when Disston stopped "nibbing" so did everyone else....
