    8pt Disston Panel Saw

Here is a an old junker saw I resurrected. It is a 22" saw plate Disston 8pt. Panel Saw.
It had a rusty saw plate, broken handle, and big jagged teeth.

I made a handle from curly maple. I sanded and polished the saw plate, filed the tooth line
smooth, filed new crosscut teeth, and polished the brass.

The result is a nice crisp straight cutting panel saw. I don't keep it in a tool box, but I would call it a tool box saw. I thought you might like to see it.

Sexy handle! What did you finish it with?

I wiped on poly for the finish.
I also have two other saws I made new handles for. I made them out of sapele.
The sapele makes a gorgeous handle.

Nice job! Rehabbing an old beauty like this always gives me a great sense of satisfaction (even if the person I give it to doesn't quite see its value).

Thanks for the picture. Reminds me of a few waiting in the pile for me to redo.

    Lowell, great job!
I noticed in your picture that there is a nub 3-4'' from the front end is that indicative of Disston Saws and do you know the purpose of it?
    Thanks

I really do not know the function of the nib.

I read some where that it was used to mark the wood for a cross cut. I do not place a lot of credibility to that explanation.

    See this link

This handle is curly maple, not sapele. I had a brain hiccup.
