    if if happens again turn on the water main briefly after removing the hydrant head. The water pressure will push the parts out of the standpipe.

    I had to use that technique when some gravel from the side of the hole fell into the supply line.

    When I worked a for a crop service it never failed that on a holiday the water main would break.
