Easiest way I know is to click on the person's name above the message subject title and choose "Private message" from the little popup menu.

I don't know if it works the same if you are accessing by mobile device. If not you can click "Private messages" in the forum menu then "Send private message" and type in the person's name.

If you want to buy an item offered in Classifieds you might post a reply right away to "hold your place" and mention you are sending a private message as soon as you find out how!
