Tool question Ken - How do you like the ECE rebate plane? Is that the simple, non-fenced version?

You'll need a separate vehicle just to haul the tools....

    David,

lost the reply, to bad RV site internet but here goes once more. Yes it is the unfenced one and it is one of my most used planes. Much more than the metal ones with fences.

In a similar vein as yours Ken, I have been bringing new tools up to my cabin for the past 6 years and still don't have everything I need up there. You have a great set of tools with you.

I'm just kidding here --> You could eliminate the steel rule, the measuring tape, the calculator, and at least one of the squares if you just do more work with the dividers.

    Jerry,

LOL, the kit fits in the Japanese style tool box with just a couple of loose things like holdfasts. The tool box goes into one of several lower storage bins also with room left over

    Pat,

Thanks, The kit may need a couple or three more tool but I haven't felt the need yet. I also expect I will make another smaller box or two so no one box is hard to move. I can move this one but my back let's me know I shouldn't.

I've followed the other thread and agree with most. Usually I just do rough measurements on the first piece and mark off that.

  8. Do you find use enough on the road to carry both sizes of routers?

That is a very good kit Ken. I don't know why but I thought you would have far less for on the road. I didn't see any card scrapper. I'd surely miss mine.

    Jim,

You caught the major packing mistake. Next time out the box will have a few scrapper and a file.

How many sherpas do you use to move that load around?

    Rob,

This trip was mostly a proof of concept run. The only module of the whole kit, including the bench, that is more than 50 lbs. is the tool box. I'm not sure what the tool box weighs but even with my bad back I cxn load and unload it without help but if someone is around my back thanks me. When we are back in Tucson I will make a second smaller tool box to address that issue.

For a first run things have worked very well. I've loaded and unload the bench several times with no problems, the break down and assembly are easy and quick. Even though the bench is light it is very stable in use. I've tried most of the major tasks, cutting and fitting dovetails, making mortise and tenons, making grooves and rabbets, I even four squared several boards with no problems other than figuring out how to secure the work. It's not my massive French/English bench but it doesn't give up much.

If I were a "renter" or expecting to move often with just a few small changes the bench would be a perfect main bench.

Sorry for the long answer to a short question but bottom line is just me.

Drill bits, but no brace or egg beater? Love the kit by the way. I'd want to throw in a 1/8" chisel and a coping or fret saw.
