Thread: Need help choosing a bandsaw blade

Question Need help choosing a bandsaw blade

I am making a Cherry mantle and have hit a road block. I am in the process of making the corbels which are solid cherry and they are 6" thick. I have them all glued up and ready to shape but my bandsaw blade is inadequate. What size blade would be best for the job at hand? What width, tooth shape etc will handle the thick stock while trying to minimize burning? I have a Rigid with a 14" table if that helps at all.

Any my advice would be be greatly appreciated!

You need a blade with as few teeth as possible, narrow enough to go around the curves you are cutting. 1/4" 6 tpi would be a good place to start with the tension set a little higher than normal.

Thanks Dennis. Do you have a certain brand name that you lean towards when you buy your blades?

I have been using the same 1" carbide blade for years without sharpening. Bought from Eagle tools. For up to 6" of cherry you'll want a 3 or 4 TPI probably.

I like Lennox blades but am sure that other brands are good also.
