I have been doing Marquetry for many years now employing the "packet" cutting method taught by Paul Schurch. Recently I have been experimenting with double bevel cutting, specifically using commercial veneer. I am pretty sure Silas uses mostly commercial veneer as well. I have his DVD, and have studied his few YouTube vids showing his techniques. However, he never really addresses how he cuts such thin veneer? I know he uses a backer veneer or matboard under his veneer for support and I think he angles his scroll saw apx 19 degrees? But, I can't seem to get the control he gets and the clean cuts without supporting the veneer from the top as well?
Has anyone taken a class from him? I have sent him two emails requesting his class schedule and or private lessons, but he graciously replied that he is no longer teaching.
