    Miter saw dust collection

20171006_180808 (Small).jpg20171006_180818 (Small).jpg20171006_180750 (Small).jpg20171006_180756 (Small).jpgDoes anyone have any ideas on a good dust collection setup for a 12 inch sliding compound miter saw. It is mainly used for 90 degree cuts, however, I do use it for 45 degree cuts sometimes. I currently have it on a bench and when I ran my DC, I ran a 6 inch port right above it. I see a lot of dust hoods when I google it, but was wondering thoughts on the best route to go making one and if anyone has some good tips or advice.

If I have to build something larger, I can always move the upper cabinet on the left side.

Miter saws (of any kind) are perhaps the hardest tools to collect dust/chips from. The only reasonable way to get most of the debris is with a hood behind the tool that captures the 'splash' in addition to collecting from the saw's pickup port.

The most expensive tool is the one you buy "cheaply" and often...

    Joe,

The best I have seen is in this video about 4 minutes in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKSqjPuR1k4 Jay Bates did something similar but with wood instead of the clear vinyl curtain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5tOIBfA8V8 . These seem to work better than the 'big cone' approach since it forces the air by the blade. Good luck.

Hope this helps, let us know what you do.

20170610_202504.jpg20170610_202402 (1).jpgI made this miter saw stand earlier this year; my space is very tight in a two car garage. The vac and dust deputy are on their own base; sometimes move it to the router table etc. The saw is a Bosch and so far is working out very well. Love the dust deputy. It captures more than I thought it would.
